Christmas – When God Came Down
On this 3rd weekend of the Advent Season, we pause again to remember that at Christmas God came to us as Emmanuel – God WITH us.  There is a lovely Christmas carol which says, “Love came down at Christmas…”  That is so true – as Jesus left the beauty of heaven to “come down” to Planet Earth, with all our pain and brokenness, to live as a humble carpenter, and pay the ultimate sacrifice for our sins on the Cross.

I was recently reading that in the middle of London in Trafalgar Square stands a towering pillar of 169 feet – the majestic statue of Lord Nelson.  And the figure of Nelson is so high up that it’s impossible to distinguish any of his facial features.  So in 1948 a new statue – an exact replica of the original statue of Nelson – was erected.  And it was placed at eye level!   Why? – so that everyone could see Nelson’s face close-up.

This is what God did in Bethlehem 2000 years ago.  He “came down from heaven” – in the person of a baby named Jesus, so that we might know God at eye level.  Someone has called it “The Great Christmas Come-Down!”   So we might say, “Glory to God – in the lowest!”   As He comes to you this Advent and Christmas season, open your life to Him, and let him be born in you, and live His life in and through you.

We’d love for you to worship with us here at Truro next weekend.  Christmas Eve (Sunday) services are at 11am, 2,4,7,10pm.  (The 2 and 4pm services are family-oriented, offered for young children and families.)  Christmas Day (Monday) worship is at 11:15am.    (This Sunday, 17th, services are at 9, 11:15, and 5pm.)

May God’s love “come down” to you this Christmas season, and richly bless you and your family.
