Dear TPK Families,
Thank you so much for joining us at Truro this past Sunday for TPK Sunday! It is always such a treat for us our TPK friends with us on a Sunday morning. My name is Mike Seawright, and I’m one of the pastors at Truro and the Director of Family Ministries, which means I have the great privilege of overseeing all of Truro’s programs for kids, teens, and families. We have wonderful programs for kids and a warm and safe nursery at both our 9am and 11:15am services on Sunday morning, and we would love for you to join us any time.
Over the last several years, we’ve been working hard to make Truro a wonderful place for children. As a church, we’re committed to the “long game” when it comes to kids and families—we don’t just want to see our kids and teens grow now (although we certainly work and pray for that!), but we strive to provide the foundation for a lifetime of faith. To that end our Kids Ministry prioritizes spiritual growth, relational connection, partnering with parents, and child safety.
At Truro, parents can expect that kids will spend time worshipping with the larger church family. We believe that faith is “caught” as much as it is taught, and so children spend time in “big church” praying, singing, and hearing Scripture before heading to their own programs. Kids also return to “big church” each week to participate in Communion with the larger church family. This teaches kids the rhythms of church life while also ensuring that kids have the opportunity to watch their parents and other adults worship, listen, pray, and participate.
At the same time, we acknowledge that differentiating learning experiences are important, and so we work hard to create engaging, safe, and age-appropriate environments for our kids. Our Kids Ministry is small group driven (with an average small group size of 8 to 12 kids and 2-3 leaders), so that kids can build relationships both with peers and loving adults. Every week kids learn a Bible story and learn about how the story points us to Jesus, and they spend time praying together, and we reinforce these relationships and the Bible story during the school year in between our morning services.
It is our deepest desire to walk alongside parents and families in the raising of children, and we count it a privilege to pray for TPK families. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if we can serve you in any way.
In Christ,
The Rev. Mike Seawright
Director of Family Ministries
