What to Know About Parent Teacher Conferences

Our Parent Teacher Conference days are coming up! In today’s blog post, we wanted to tell you three things we think you need to know about conferences.

  1. Arrive with some time to spare! Factor in some margin so you can arrive, check your child into the childcare provided here, and get to your child’s teacher. Coming a few minutes early will leave you with enough time to take a breath on your way there – and benefit from your full 15 minutes of time with the teacher. If the teacher is running behind schedule, please knock on the door at your conference time as a gentle reminder to the teacher. We want you to have the full time reserved for you so that you can really hear what your teacher has to say and to respond.
  2. We are on the same team and communication is key. A parent-teacher conference is a collaborative time for information to be shared between the teacher and parent. You know your child the best, and the teacher has a unique lens to see how your child responds in a classroom environment. You will receive information about how your child is doing in our environment and the skills we are working on toward Kindergarten readiness. But your input is so valuable – the teacher will benefit from knowing how your child responds at home so we can continue to work together to maintain a loving and safe environment where your child can flourish. And this is not the only time to communicate with your child’s teacher; please remember that your teacher is always available to you via email or in person with a scheduled appointment throughout the year. Ongoing communication is essential to us and to your child’s success.
  3. Ask questions! Feel free to ask questions if you need clarification on any point made during your conference time, or even if you disagree with something that is shared. And after conferences you may have questions – you might wonder what you can do at home or what we can do at school to enhance your child’s learning or help them to thrive in preschool. This is what we’re here for! So ask questions while you’re in your conference; and afterwards,  if you want to set up an additional time to meet with the teacher and/or reach out to the office staff for extra support, we are here for you.

We are looking forward to seeing you November 25th.

One last thing – on Conference Day, we traditionally have a bake sale in the glass walkway. Come by and snag a little treat! Proceeds from this sale will benefit our sponsored child, Supa, in Kenya.
