What Do Children Learn in the Science Center?

Young children are naturally curious about the world around them, and the science center gives that curiosity room to grow. Children observe, investigate, predict, compare, classify, measure, experiment, and ask questions as they explore topics such as plants, insects, animals, water, light, weather, magnets, and the human body. They learn that unexpected results are not failures—they are opportunities to wonder, investigate, and try again. Teachers support this process by providing accessible materials and asking questions that prompt children to explain what they notice and consider what might happen next.

Science is also a wonderful way for children to develop a sense of awe and gratitude for God’s creation. We want children to see the world as something worth noticing, caring for, and exploring. You can nurture this at home without complicated experiments. Take a nature walk, collect and sort leaves, watch clouds, plant a seed, investigate what floats and what sinks, or simply ask, “What do you notice?” As you explore together, thank God for the beauty and wonder you see.
